...I join the ranks of million of other Americans – I consume! I eat, drink coffee, and (drum roll) I buy yarn. Thank god, knitting stores all over the Bay Area are tuned into people like me because most are open on Sunday for bingers like me. So today it was Skein Lane. Frankly, it is often Skein Lane because the women who work there are nice enablers and the store is open until 5, there is always parking and it is RIGHT across the street from Fat Apples (more on that later). So I left the house about 3:30 pm. The weather was autumnal – sort of foggy sad and I had a KD Laing CD that was as sad and sweet as love gone wrong. The leaves are changing and there is a thick eucalyptus smell mixed with wood smoke in the air. Here in my part of the Bay Area – I even saw folks on horseback roaming the hills. It could make for a good cry – if I wasn’t on my way to buy stuff.
$145.87 later, my mood was buoyed. I switched out KD for Carlos Santana and stopped at Fat Apples for a non-fat latte and two pecan cookies. It was as good as the morphine I was once given for pain. I could nod off right at my keyboard clutching my new copy of Stitch ‘N Bitch Nation while smelling the tweed I bought for the poncho that will make me look fascinating. Sigh.
Safeway Road Rage
So on the way home I stop by the local white trash Safeway (near my house) and I by accident, I get to a parking space that someone was apparently waiting for – though I don’t know where she came from. After pulling in, the Ford Aspire (aspiring to be another car) parked behind me and blew her squeaking horn. I finally pushed my car into reverse – she pushed her car into reverse – and I pulled out of the space. She won, I guess. But I left not because I am a wimp (though I probably am) but because I just couldn’t understand that kind of energy over a space to put your car. I went to another grocery store.
Happy Monday.
Be good. Or good enough.
